Toyota turbo kits- aftermarket computers
Aftermarket computers also known as aftermarket ECU’s is another important modification in terms of gaining more power. Aftermarket computers help change three main things. The cam angle, the ignition and air/fuel ratio. There are two main types of computer upgrades:
Stand alone ECU- Stand alone ECU’s allow full control of the engine and computer controlled systems. They generally come with a base map of your car and are full replacements for a factory computer. Upgrade chips- these change two main areas of performance. They advance the ignition timing and change the fuel mapping (adding more fuel gives more power). Some upgrade chips also increase the manufacturer boost limit settings so the turbo boost can be cranked up. With upgrade chips the standard computer remains but is chipped with new maps for better performance.
