The point of an aftermarket exhaust is to make the exhaust piping larger, and less restrictive, thus allowing the exhaust gases to escape your engine faster and more efficiently. With turbo applications a larger exhaust will help your turbo spool well and breathe much more efficiently. This will reduce lag and give you some more power when boosting.
Exhausts can be either custom made or ordered in. If ordered in from Japan systems will either cat-back or turbo-back. A cat-back exhaust is a bigger exhaust but with a catalytic converter whereas a turbo-back exhaust is single piping straight through. Systems ordered in are direct bolt-on, and take about two weeks to be delivered and installed.
